ACOUSTIC GRAND PIANOS

As the largest types of pianos due to their horizontal frame and strings, grand pianos are the preferred instrument for professional pianists because they generally offer a richer and more resonant quality of sound as well as a more responsive action. Acoustic pianos rely on hammers striking the strings and the sound then amplified through the wooden soundboard. Grand pianos vary in size and are designed for large concert halls and private homes alike: baby grands are often categorized between 4-5 feet in length, classic grands range from 5’6” to 7’, and concert grands are normally up to 9 feet in length.  An acoustic grand piano is always an ideal choice because it provides an unparalleled playing experience and a more uniform and balanced sound across the keyboard. On a grand piano, a pianist can easily play with a greater dynamic range and more subtle or complex nuances in expression.

 ACOUSTIC UPRIGHT PIANOS

Upright pianos have a vertical frame and strings, which is why they are alternatively called vertical pianos. This design makes the piano more compact and easier to fit into smaller spaces, a popular choice for homes, apartments, schools, or smaller venues with limited space. Upright pianos are categorized into four main size ranges depending on the height of the instrument: Spinet pianos range from 36-38 inches tall, Console pianos are normally between 40-42 inches, Studio pianos are 45-48 inches, and full-sized Uprights are pianos with greater heights, sometimes up to 52 inches tall. Why does this matter? The taller the upright piano, the longer the strings, creating a richer depth of sound in the lower notes. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced pianist, an acoustic upright piano offers the exceptional sound and durability of a classic piano in a space-saving design.

DIGITAL PIANOS

Digital pianos produce sound entirely electronically, transmitting a recorded sound through speakers. This style of piano has many advantages, as they are often more affordable and portable than acoustic pianos, plus they do not require tuning maintenance. Pianists love the versatility that digital pianos offer, from transposing music into a different key, connecting headphones, integrating with apps or other technology, or accessing hundreds of instrument voices and styles. Digital pianos expand the limits of what can be done with a piano, yet they are designed to reflect the beauty of a console-style or a grand piano in appearance, appealing for any home or studio setting.

HYBRID PIANOS

Hybrid pianos combine elements of acoustic and digital pianos, bringing together the best of both worlds. Hybrids have the feel and response of a traditional acoustic piano because they feature real piano action, but with the advantage of technology to further enhance the sounds and features. With highest quality sound samples and speakers, hybrid pianos have all the benefits of playing a digital piano without losing the authentic feel of an acoustic.

PORTABLE KEYBOARDS

Keyboards are digital instruments, but they vary from digital pianos in that they are highly portable and versatile. This is a perfect option for taking your music on the go, since keyboards are much easier to maneuver to different locations. Keyboards can be set up on an x-stand for easy mobility, or attached to a wooden stand for more stability.
